Meet the King of the Hill for March 2016

By | Announcements | No Comments

Hi guys,

I hope you are well. I am so excited to introduce to you the King of the Hill for March 2016, Dr. Anthony Cukras. Everyone loves Anthony at COTH! He works hard, always ask how you are doing and genuinely cares for people. He is a gem at COTH.

True story: When Anthony started training with us. Jenna and I thought that he was going to pass out in every workout. Not because he was out of shape. He works so hard that he will turned a little pale and start hyperventilating. At the end of every workout, he will come to us and say “thank you that was really fun”. Then, Jenna and I will take a deep breathe. Ok, he is alright.

Keep reading to learn more about him.

What brought you to Boston?

My wife and I came to Boston in 2004 — which was supposed to be to complete our medical training.  12 years later and we’re still here.   Now with our 2 daughters, Boston has become home.   Boston manages to be a great city while still feeling livable and kind of suburban.

What drew you to CrossFit?

I got bored at the gym.  Going to the gym became boring and isolating instead of being a great break from the day.  It still astounds me that anyone cares whether I finish my workout — but the community of crossfit is great.  It is fun, exhausting and a great stress relief.

What keeps you coming back to COTH?

The community of people at COTH is fun.  It is fun to be around people of different ages and different background who all hang out together.

Biggest improvements/struggles with CrossFit?

Wanting to get better without taking it too seriously.

If you could create your own WOD, what movements would you use?

Double unders, pull ups, push ups — with short rounds so I wouldn’t rest too much.

Meat head nickname (with explanation)?

I’ll always be way more nerd than meat head.

See you at the box,

Movement Prep and Strategies for 16.2

By | Mobility, WOD | No Comments

Hello Athletes,

I hope you are well and excited about some heavy squat cleans. Does of you who had work to improve your mobility and strength on your Front Squat Position will be rewarded in this WOD. Although, you will have to get through some Toes to Bar and Double Unders before you can prove your strength.

We have borrowed a movement prep video from The Movement Fix and a strategy video from WODprep. Make sure you watch them and talk to your coaches before you take a hack at 16.2. I also included 16.2 standard video.

Queen of the Point for March 2016

By | Announcements | No Comments

Hello Athletes,

I hope you are well. Let me introduce to you the Queen of the Point for March 2016, Charlene Amaziane. Charlene is a strong, positive and encouraging competitor. You will always find her focusing on mobility before any workout. Charlene does not shy away from any movement and will gracefully accept the challenges presented to her. We are thrilled she chose us as her gym and can’t thank her enough for her perfectly balanced fierce and humble spirit. Keep reading to learn more about Charlene.

What brought you to Boston?

I grew up in Danvers. I moved around quite a bit after college. I ended up living in Abu Dhabi for a while and I got started with CrossFit there.

What drew you to CrossFit?

I was drawn to CrossFit because I was tired of being tired and weak. The idea of being strong and confident like the women in CrossFit really pushed me to try it out. I really needed a change in my life.

What keeps you coming back to COTH?

I keep coming to CrossFit because it’s the only thing I truly do for me. It keeps me sane!

Biggest improvements/struggles with CrossFit?

I would say my biggest improvements are in my strength and confidence. The first day I did CrossFit I couldn’t strict press the bar. Now I can jerk over 100lbs! I would never have imagined I could do that. I think I really struggle with gymnastics moves. Someday I’ll get a pull up!

If you could create your own WOD, what movements would you use?

My WOD would include lots of KB snatches, cleans, and weighted lunges. Definitely no thrusters!

Meat head nickname (with explanation)?

So back at the box in Abu Dhabi I got the nickname Wahsha which means Beast in Arabic.

COTH Athletes Leaderboard after 16.1

By | Announcements | No Comments

Hi Athletes,

I hope you are well. Great work on 16.1. It was really fun to do it with at COTH during the 5pm class. Special thanks to Matt for judging and Coach Oz for encouraging me. Lets see what we get for 16.2. I think is going to be “pedal to the metal”, “fast and furious” type of MetCon that leaves you in the ground disoriented.
